Autumn Ricochet*

Spiking down western flanks

through brook-broken aspen groves

a slant of dawn shoots

a russet maple rose

and stills across moving glass

against a tilted granite face

spraying sparks of gold

toward cobalt sky--

like the first waking flash

from a school boy’s eyes

that ricochets through

wooded windows back

when kitchen quiet

thunders home it’s Saturday

breaking his lips apart

at the sweet taste of light.
