Transitions*

En route to town

we stopped to shoo

a nuthatch from harm's way.

When we returned

Jackie slowly laid her

on the shoulder motionless,

eyes wide rolling home.

For the first time in her

five years she missed dinner.

At the intersection

on her wedding day,

something still stirs inside.
