Course Content: Basic
vocabulary and concepts in computer science;
Social
and ethical issues involving the use of computers; history of computing;
Creation
of a personal home page using Google docs; Microsoft Access 2010
Labs: There are 8 lab
assignments, each worth 15 points. Completed assignments are due on the dates
listed on the back of this sheet. Late assignments will be marked down 1
point for each late class day. Assignments and classwork are saved into
your own account on the H: drive of the Saint Mary’s computer network.
Projects: One
independent case project is assigned (100 points). Each student will do this by
herself with consultation from the teaching assistant or instructor.
Exams: There is one in-class midterm (100 points) on April 4th, and a final exam (100 points). The Final Exam will be Monday, May 6th at 10:30 in the classroom.
Papers: 2 papers are
required. They are worth 15 points each. See the back of this sheet for due
dates. See the paper assignment sheet for details.
Attendance: Students are
expected to attend all classes. If an absence occurs, the student must make up
any missed work Before the next class. If an emergency
or illness arises which results in a class being
cancelled, the mathematics Department Administrative Assistant will make an
announcement to the class.
Honesty Policy: You may ask questions and discuss the lab assignments with
the teaching assistant, your classmates, or any faculty member, but the work
you turn in must be your own. You may not copy anyone else’s work.
You must design your own databases and solve all problems in this course. The
academic honesty policy (The College
Bulletin pp. 64-66) is enforced in this class.
