You are required to prepare 2 short papers. The topics covered represent issues in the field of computer science.
Topics:
1. April 23rd–Prepare a short biography about one of the information technology
people mentioned in the George Beekman text which is on reserve in the library.
You can use the internet to discover more information about this individual.
Discuss his/her contribution to society in the area of technology. Include a
bibliography page citing the references that you have consulted.
2. April 30th--Given the controversy over unethical business practices such as awarding huge bonuses to investment bank executives, prepare a statement of your own code of ethics in computing. Begin by carefully reading the ACM Code of Ethics handed out in class. Include specific examples of behaviors that you would (and would not) allow. What is Saint Mary’s doing to support you in the practice of ethical behavior in computing?
Requirements:
a.
Each paper will carry 15 points of credit.
b.
Late papers will be penalized 1 point for each late class day.
c.
Be prepared to discuss your findings with your classmates on the due dates.
Format:
Each
paper must be a maximum of 2 pages, double-spaced, using word processing
software. Spelling must be checked.
The papers must begin with the selected topic's title, centered.
