Students must accompany their laptops at all times in the ResNet Office.
The only exceptions include going to the bathroom or running back to their residence
hall to retrieve a power adapter or homework. RCCs may not touch a computer
without the student being present.
ResNet cannot work on computers brought to us from anyone other than the student
owner - this includes roommates, friends, and parents. If there are any questions
about this policy, please direct them to the Associate Director of Technology Support Services.
Students are welcome to work on homework or read while they are visiting the
ResNet Office with their computer, but they should not be using the computers provided
in the ResNet/Helpdesk area. Students may use the entryway computers only to complete ResNet
Problem Report Forms or to refer to a web page or e-mail to provide an RCC with more details
about the issue(s) they are experiencing.
Please discourage students from bringing friends to the ResNet Office to keep
them company while they wait. Most of the time, there simply is not room in the ResNet
Office for the extra people.
Until further notice, only students with appointments may enter the ResNet Office.
Guests are not permitted in B11 Cushwa-Leighton Library.
Policies for RCCs working in or visiting the ResNet Office:
Be aware that RCCs are a very visible face of Information Technology to not only to
students and their parents, but to faculty and staff. Please greet people with a smile and a
welcoming, helpful presence.
RCCs should remember that the goal of working in the ResNet Office is not to simply record a problem being reported,
but to solve the problem as efficiently as possible. The focus should be on accurately and helpfully resolving
the issue during that initial request for assistance whenever possible, rather than passing the question off to
someone else. RCCs should be able to address the majority of requests for technology assistance that students bring to
the ResNet.
RCCs are expected to stay in the ResNet for their shift. Wandering around to the other Information Technology
offices/areas is not acceptable, since you need to be available for any phone calls, e-mails, appointments,
and walk-ins that contact ResNet. If you're not there to address their needs, it reflects poorly on ResNet
and all of Information Technology.
RCCs are welcome to bring homework to the ResNet Office to work on when things are slow.
Computer games, surfing the web, writing e-mail, texting, and online text chats are also acceptable
ways to keep yourself entertained when there is nothing else to do while you are on duty
and all of the ResNet Problem Report Forms are up-to-date.
RCCs are welcome to bring personal notebook computers to the ResNet Office during their
shifts to work on assignments or other things. If the ResNet Office is busy, an RCC may need
to move her personal computer aside to work on other computers.
Please do not make personal phone calls while you are on duty in the ResNet Office.
If your cell phone rings, you may certainly answer it, but please explain you are at work and
make the conversation very brief.
RCCs should not have personal guests in the ResNet Office during their shifts,
but some exceptions can be made with the prior approval of the Associate Director of Technology Support Services.
One example of an exception would be a visit from a parent arriving from out of town.
B11 Cushwa-Leighton Library is available to RCCs at any time the Cushwa-Leighton Library
is open. RCCs are welcome to use the computers, network connections, and wireless
access provided in that space at their convenience.
Group study in B11 Cushwa-Leighton Library by an RCC is acceptable, but only when both the ResNet
Office and Helpdesk are not open for technology support.
B11 Cushwa-Leighton Library is a quiet place for individual study by an RCC before and after the
ResNet Office is open.
Again, RCCs' personal notebook computers are welcome in B11 Cushwa-Leighton Library.
Policies for if the ResNet Office and/or Haggar College Center
is locked:
All RCCs are provided with a key to the ResNet Office. Do not lose this key or a fine of
$50 may be charged to your student account. You can use this key to unlock the door to B11 any time
Cushwa-Leighton Library is open.
If you are scheduled to work in the ResNet Office and Cushwa-Leighton Library is not open,
please call Security. They should come and unlock the building for you if it is not already open.
Your ResNet Office key will identify you as someone with legitimate access to the ResNet Office.
Please note that there should be 24/7 access to Trumper via the tunnel from Le Mans when the academic year is in session.
You should not be scheduled for in-person shifts that you are unable to work because the
Cushwa-Leighton Library is physically closed.
