Policy for RCCs, HDCs, and Cluscons Studying Abroad:
Information Technology is a strong supporter of students studying abroad. Students working as Cluster Consultants, Helpdesk Consultants, and ResNet Computer Consultants have the opportunity to return to campus from studying abroad to the same position they left without having to reapply.
Students must be in good standing (not on probation or have other job performance issues) to have their position retained while they study abraod.
Students receive substantial notice when they will be studying abroad, and they can then share that news in a timely fashion with their supervisor.
When students study abroad, their positions on campus need to be filled while they are away. The Associate Director of Technology Support Services needs time to complete the hiring process before the end of the semester.
Students who do not notify the Associate Director of Technology Support Services in writing (via e-mail) by the deadline will not have their positions reserved for them when they return to campus. Students not adhering to the deadline will have to reapply, reinterview, and compete with other qualified applicants for a position.
Students wishing to move from one position reporting to the Associate Director of Technology Support Services to another position must note that desire in their notice of studying abroad. Interviews can then be arranged before the end of the current semester.
Notification of students' return ensures that staffing is still adequate for the upcoming semester. The Associate Director of Technology Support Services needs time to complete any neccesary hiring in case students no longer wish to return to their positions in Information Technology.
Financial Aid also will be notified of any students who cannot extend the courtesy of advance notice so it can be noted in their permanant file at Saint Mary's College.
* In the rare cases that students studying abroad plan to extend their stay abroad for an additional semester, these dates of notification for the upcoming semester still apply.
