Saint Mary's students are responsible for checking their personal devices (computers, tablets, smartphones) for compatibility with Microsoft Office 365 for Students before installing the software.

    Saint Mary's students are responsible for checking their personal devices (computers, tablets, smartphones) to confirm the devices are compatible with any software they obtain or attempt to install.

    Students wishing to upgrade their version of macOS should also refer to Apple's website to confirm compatibility for their computer model.

    Students wishing to upgrade their version of Windows should also refer to their computer's documentation or manufacturer's website to confirm compatibility and the availability of drivers for their computer model.

    Please note that Microsoft may offer the previous version of Microsoft Office for a short time, but access to the previous version can end at any time.

    The instructions below assume that you are checking your computer's specifications for compatibility with Microsoft software, since those typically exceed the minimum specifications for connecting to ResNet.


    To check your macOS system specifications for Office 365 for Students compatibility:

    1. Go to the Apple menu (in the upper left corner) and select About this Mac.
    2. The software version must meet or exceed macOS Version 10.15 for Office 365 compatibility. If you are running an earlier version of macOS you will need to run Software Update first to be compatible.
    3. The Processor must be Intel, M1, or M2 for Office 365 compatibility.
    4. The Memory must be 4GB or more (RAM) for Office 365.
    5. To check the hard drive capacity and free space available, click once on the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop. Go to the File menu and select Get Info. The available space should exceed 10GB for Office 365 compatibility.

    To check your Windows 10/11 system specifications for Office 365 for Students compatibility:

    1. From the Start menu, select Settings.
    2. Click on System.
    3. Click on About in the left column.
    4. In the right column of the window, will find the version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 you are running. Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Home, and Windows 11 Pro are supported at Saint Mary's College, and are compatible with Office 365.
    5. You will also see the processor type, speed, and installed Memory (RAM) on your computer.
      • You need at least a 2GHz, 2-core processor for Office 365 for Windows, and need at least 4GB of memory (RAM).
    6. To see how much space is available on your hard drive, go to the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and click on the yellow folder icon for File Explorer. In the left column, click on the arrow next to This PC to expand its list (if it has not already been expanded). The Local Disk (C:) drive is likely your primary drive. Right-click on Local Disk (C:) and select Properties.
      • You need at least 4GB free space for Microsoft Office 365 for Windows.
