Gerbeth Claims Individual Title at MIAA Championships;
Belles Finish Sixth
JENISON, MI – For the first time in four years a Saint Mary’s swimmer was crowned an MIAA champion when Melissa Gerbeth swam the 1650 yard freestyle event in a time of 17:51.31.
Megan Ramsey won the 100 yard butterfly for the Belles in 2003. It is only the second time in Saint Mary’s swimming history they won an individual event at the MIAA Championships.
Gerbeth held off Andrea Keller of Hope who swam the event in 18:00.89. In addition her time bested her previous personal best mark of 18:21.88. Earlier in the meet Gerbeth posted a third place finish in the 400 IM event with a time of 4:48.65.
As a team the Belles finished sixth with 133 team points.
