Bethel Prevails in Five-Game Affair

Bethel got a match high 22 kills from Erica Bruxvoort as they knocked off Saint Mary’s 3-2 (25-30, 30-19, 30-25, 22-30, 15-12) in a thrilling volleyball match Thursday evening at the Wiekamp Athletic Center.
After the Belles (11-4) opened the match with a game one victory, Bethel jumped out to a 16-9 in the second game in cruising to the second game win. The Pilots continued their momentum in the third game with a 30-25 victory.
Saint Mary’s jumped out to a 13-6 edge in the fourth game and never looked back in forcing a decisive fifth game. The Belles held a 8-6 at the midway point the final game but Bethel notched four of the next five points and Saint Mary’s couldn’t regain the lead.
Lorna Slupczynski had a team high 19 kills to pace the Saint Mary’s offensive attack. Kristen Playko (17) and Cathy Kurczak (14) rounded out the double digit kill producers for the Belles. Anne Cusack had a match high 25 digs.
