Saint Mary's Split Matches Again at Hiram Invitational
HIRAM, OH – On the second and final day of the Hiram Invitational, the Saint Mary’s volleyball team won their opening match with a 3-1 (30-22, 25-30, 30-27, 30-22) decision over Geneva ( Pa.) but dropped their final match of the day to M.I.T. 3-2 (29-31, 30-23, 30-25, 21-30, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon.
During the four-match, two-day event the Belles split their four matches as their record now stands at 3-6.
In the opening match against Geneva ( Pa.), the Belles got a pair of double-double efforts from Lorna Slupczynski and Kaela Hellman. Slupczynski had 15 kills and 10 digs while Hellman added 11 kills and 14 digs in the four-game win. Andrea Sasgen added three service aces to aid in the win.
In the five-game loss to M.I.T. the Belles got another fine effort from Slupczynski as she produced another double-double with a 17 kill, 18 dig effort. Amanda David pitched in 46 assists and 10 digs while Cathy Kurczak added five totals blocks and eight kills in the marathon match.
For her efforts over the two-day event, Slupczynski was named the All-Tournament squad.
