Belles Sweep Olivet in Home Opener
Box Score
NOTRE DAME, IN – In a match were every Belles player saw playing time, Lorna Slupczynski led the way with a 15-kill, 10-dig effort as Saint Mary’s posted a 3-0 (30-17, 30-19, 30-27) win over Olivet in their home opener Tuesday evening.
The win lifts the Belles record to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in MIAA play while Olivet falls to 1-9 and 0-2 respectively.
With that match knotted at 14-14 in the first game, the Belles went on a 16-3 scoring spree in taking a 1-0 edge in the match. Game two was much the same as Saint Mary’s scored the first six points of the game and never let Olivet get closer than three points the rest of the way in taking a commanding two games lead in the match.
Olivet held a 23-21 advantage late in the third game on a Mackenzie Heator service ace but the Belles regained control with an 8-3 scoring run before closing out the contest on an Andrea Sasgen kill on match point.
In addition to Slupczynski’s effort, Cathy Kurczak produced 11 kills on a .429 hitting percentage while Kaela Hellman added 10 digs to aid in the Belles performance.
Jennie Malm and Ellen Schultz each tallied nine kills for Olivet.
