Belles Sweep Weekly Soccer Awards NOTRE DAME, IN – Justine Higgins was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week while teammate Bridget Ronayne was honored as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week as the Belles tied North Central last Sunday 0-0 then opened MIAA play with a 2-1 victory over Kalamazoo this past Saturday. In Saturday’s win over Kalamazoo, Higgins scored the game-winner with just over 10 minutes to play when she raced down the right side of the field before beating the Hornets goalie for an unassisted tally. The native of Naperville, Ill. posted a career high five shots, three of which that were on goal, in the win. Ronayne scored her first collegiate goal in the win over the Hornets. The sophomore has been vital for the Belles defense who has only allowed one goal in their last four contests. Royayne has started all eight games on defense for the Belles this season who have posted five shutouts and are allowing just 0.61 goals a game. Saint Mary’s is 5-1-2 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play. They will host fellow league member Albion at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. |
