NOTRE DAME, IN – The Belles handed the eight-time defending MIAA regular champions Alma their worst defeat in conference history with a 9-1 win in the first game then followed that with an 8-0 victory in the second game.
The wins lift Saint Mary’s record to 16-6 overall and 5-1 in MIAA play while the Scots fall to 15-7 and 4-2 respectively. The win also put the Belles in first-place while becoming the first team to sweep a conference doubleheader from Alma since Albion turned the trick during the 2002 season.
In the opener, Calli Davison went 3-for-4 while driving in two and scoring one in the shorten five inning affair. Bridget Grall threw a one-hitter while striking out two to improve her record to 6-4.
In the second game, Grall went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Martha Smid went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. On the mound Kristin Amram struck out eight and allowed four hits to up her record to 9-1.
