Alma Ends Saint Mary’s Season at MIAA Tournament

HOLLAND, MI – Second seeded Alma plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning and it proved to be enough as they knocked off third seeded Saint Mary’s 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the season ending MIAA tournament.
The loss ends the season for the Belles with a 28-13 record. Alma moves on to play the first seed Hope in the championship. Alma needed to beat Hope twice to claim the double-elimination tournament championship.
The Scots broke a scoreless tie with a Sarah Seals RBI single in the top of the fifth. Alma added on three more runs the next inning highlighted by a Trista Geier two-run double.
In the last of the seventh inning, Saint Mary’s plated two runs on hits by Calli Davison and Bridget Grall. The Belles had the winning run come to the plate with runners on first and third with two outs but Sarah Miesle grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
Alyssa Gooch took the win for Alma by striking out five and allowing two earned runs in 6.2 innings to up her record to 7-4.
