The Saint Mary’s
College Softball team returned from their Spring Break trip in
Ft. Myers, FL with a 7-3 record.
The Belles began their campaign
by facing a tough Montclair State team. Saint Mary’s got
the scoring started early with Audrey Gajor’s solo homerun
in the top of the first inning. Montclair state responded with
two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Belles battled
back to tie the game in the top of the sixth when Bridget Grall
scored from third on a fielder’s choice. In the top of
the eighth, Saint Mary’s regained the lead when Calli Davison
drove in Grall to give the Belles the 3-2 advantage. The Belles
then added to their lead when Davison scored a run to put the
Belles up 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning, Montclair State
put a run to be down 4-3 before ending the game on a bases-loaded
double.
In the second game of the day, the Belles pulled their record
even with a 2-1 win over Heidelberg, with Kristin Amram earning
her first career win. The Belles were led by the offensive production
of Martha Smid, McKenna Corrigan, and Gajor.
Saint Mary’s continued their winning ways when they defeated Edgewood and
University of Massachusetts-Boston by a combined total of 15-1. The Belles’ 7-1
victory over Edgewood was highlighted by the stellar offensive performance of
Laura Heline, who went 3-3 including two homeruns while driving in five runs.
Grall earned her first win of the season on the mound for the Belles.
Saint Mary’s continued their offensive onslaught by defeating the University
of Massachusetts-Boston 8-0. The Belles had two hits from Gajor, Miesle, and
Amram. Amram also picked up the win from the mound, striking out 10.
The Belles pushed their winning streak to four with a win over Cazenovia in the
first game of the day on Tuesday. Cazenovia jumped to the early lead in the top
of the first inning, but the Belles responded in the bottom half of the inning
and never looked back. Grall picked up the win for the Belles from the mound.
The second game of the day saw the Belles’ winning streak come to an end
as they dropped a 2-1 contest to North Park.
The fourth day of play was one for the record books for the Belles as they picked
up two wins by scoring 18 runs and seeing their freshmen pitchers throw back-to-back
no-hitters. In the opening game of the day, the Belles had five players garner
two hits apiece, highlighted by homeruns from Smid and Miesle. The offensive
production was more than enough for freshman pitcher Amram, who gave up no hits
while striking out nine en route to picking up her third win of the season.
The Belles roughed up Mount Ida in the second game of the day for 17 hits, including
three hits from Rashid, Meghan Marenkovic, and Kendra Pruchnicki as well as a
homerun from Davison. Davison got it done on the mound as well, giving up no
hits while picking up her first win from the mound.
The Belles wrapped up their trip by going 1-1 in their final day of play. The
Belles opened up the day with a commanding 12-3 win over Dickinson. The Belles
bats were on fire again as several Belles had multiple hits, including homeruns
from Ashley Fusaro, Corrigan, and Grall, who also picked up the win on the mound.
Saint Mary’s dropped their final game of the trip to a tough Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute team 1-0. The Belles saw six different players garner hits
in the loss.
