Saint Mary's Prevails in Five Against Tri-State

Saint Mary’s placed three players in double figure kills en route to a marathon 3-2 (30-21, 23-30, 24-30, 30-25, 15-9) victory over Tri-State on Tuesday evening in MIAA volleyball action at Hershey Hall.

The win lifts the Belles record to 16-8 overall and 9-6 in league play. In addition the victory guarantees that Saint Mary’s will finish with a winning conference record since the 1999 season. Tri-State falls to 7-19 and 5-10 respectively.

After taking game one in convincing fashion, the Thunder fought back to claim wins in the second and third game during their senior night. In the pevetal fourth game, Tri-State held a 19-14 lead only to see the Belles rally eventually taking the lead for good at 24-23 in game four.

In the final game, the Belles busted open a 4-4 tie by rattling off five of the next six points in helping them claim the win.

Kristen Playko posted her 18 th double-double of the season with a 18-kill, 26-dig effort in the win. Kaela Hellmann had 13 kills to go along with a .393 hitting percentage. Cathy Kurczak rounded out the double figure kill producers for the Belles with 11.

It was the third time this season that Saint Mary’s beat Tri-State.
