Defending Champion Hope Beat Saint Mary’s, 67-42

HOLLAND, MI – Defending National Champion Hope knocked off Saint Mary’s 67-42 in MIAA opener for both teams at the DeVos Fieldhouse.
The win lifts the Hope’s record to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Belles fall to 1-4 and 0-1 respectively.
In the opening half Saint Mary’s jumped out to a 6-2 lead four minutes into the game but the Flying Dutch responded with a 15-0 scoring run to take a 17-6 edge en route to a 31-17 lead at the intermission.
Hope held a double figure lead through out the entire second half. Saint Mary’s got as close as 39-25 on back-to-back foul shots by Bridget Lipke with 15:05 left in the game. The winning margin was the largest advantage Hope had during the contest.
Saint Mary’s was held to a season low 27.3 shooting percentage (15-of-55) in the loss.
Anna Kammrath posted her first collegiate double-double with a 10-point, 13-rebound effort off the bench. Alison Kessler also posted a double figure scoring effort with 10.
Ellen Wood led all scorers with 14 points in the winning effort.
