Olivet Overcomes Kessler’s Career Night

OLIVET, MI – Alison Kessler scored a career high 30 points but it wasn’t enough as Olivet posted a 82-63 win over Saint Mary’s Thursday evening in MIAA basketball action.
Kessler’s effort was aided by a 13-for-14 effort from the foul line during her 37 minutes of action. The junior also tied her career by posting five steals.
The Belles (4-8, 3-2 MIAA) held a 14-7 edge after a Kessler jumper with just over 14 minutes left in the half. However Olivet slowly chipped away at their deficit and went into the locker room with a 37-34 edge. In the opening frame, Saint Mary’s early seven point lead was the largest for either team.
With Olivet (6-5, 3-1 MIAA) up 51-49 with 10:40 remaining in the game, the Comets went on a 14-6 scoring spurt over the next 4:33 in taking a 65-55 advantage. Saint Mary’s couldn’t get their deficit less than double figures the rest of the way.
In addition to Kessler’s effort, Anna Kammrath tallied seven points while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Audrey Graham had a team high 23 points for the Comets.
