Newsom, Likpe Post Record Efforts in Win

ANGOLA, IN – Erin Newsom scored a career high 30 points while Bridget Lipke set the schools career assists record as Saint Mary’s knocked off Tri-State 83-66 Saturday afternoon in MIAA basketball action.
The win lifts the Belles record to 8-10 overall and 7-4 in league play while Tri-State falls to 4-15 and 2-9 respectively. In eight all-time meetings, Saint Mary’s has never lost to the Thunder.
Newsom went 12-for-18 from the field in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds in posting her third double-double of the season.
Lipke dished off a game high 11 assists while scoring 13 points in 40 minutes. She nearly recorded the first triple-double in school history as she grabbed eight rebounds. The senior tri-captain surpasses Tammye Radke’s school record 353 assists she recorded during the 1984-88 seasons. Lipke now has 364 career assists.
In addition to Newsom and Lipke, Alison Kessler scored 16 points and recorded a team best five steals while Anna Kammrath rounded out the double figure scorers for the Belles posting an 11-point effort.
Kelly Rogers had a team high 16 points for the Thunder.
