Bachelor of Fine Arts (78 credit hours):

A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is recomended for the dedicated artist. With a heavy emphasis on studio practice, it fosters a student's growth in individual expression, critical thinking skills, and strong visual abilities. Students develop an impressive portfolio and exhibit their work every semester in the Moreau Art Galleries. Students work closely with accomplished professors who exhibit regionally, nationally, and internationally and explore new developments in art and a wide range of media and techniques.


Major Core Requirements:

Drawing I and II (ART 101 and ART 102)

2D and 3D Design (ART 103 and ART 104)

Art History Survey I and II (ART 241 and ART 242) -or-

Italian Art History I and II taken in Rome (ART 251RM or 252RM)

Major Elective Requirements:

Two additional upper-level art history courses

Two correlate courses

15 additional studio elective courses, 4 in an Area of Emphasis

Senior Comprehensive requirement

Participation in eight Portfolio Reviews

Advanced W portfolio

Maintain a 3.0 GPA in art courses

These are the requirements necessary to complete the BFA degree, Major in Art. This list does not include the additional general education courses needed to complete the 128 total credit hours required for each degree program at Saint Mary's.
